  • On April 6, 2017 in Carlsbad, New Mexico, Evan Gonzales, 18 years old, was arrested for three armed robberies. Police said evidence suggested Gonzales was involved in a shooting earlier that day that is being investigated. Deputies received a call of shots fired from a car at 4 a.m. Bullets struck a nearby home, but no one was injured. SOURCE: ALBUQUQUERQUE JOURNAL
  • On February 3, 2017 in Carlsbad, New Mexico, a two year-old was killed after being accidentally shot by one of his siblings. All siblings were under the age of five. They were playing outside of their home. The parents thought the gun was safely secured in the house. SOURCE: KOAT NEWS
  • On July 26, 2016, in Artesia, New Mexico, New Mexico State Police were dispatched for a 911 “shots fired” call involving an officer-involved shooting incident. As Artesia police officers arrived at the scene, they encountered Juan Reynolda Duran, 36 years old, who was armed with two firearms. During the encounter, Mr. Duran pointed firearms at police officers. After multiple demands for Mr. Duran to drop his weapon, shots were fired. Mr. Duran was pronounced dead at the scene.   • On July 5, 2016, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, police found 44 year-old Eric A. Florez, who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and had died at the scene. According to police, Florez was driving a van when he was shot. Detectives are following up investigative leads. SOURCE: SANTA FE NEW MEXICAN
  • On December 7, 2015 in Eddy County, New Mexico, a 28 year-old victim was found at home with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim remained hospitalized in critical condition. Carlsbad police are looking for a suspect. SOURCE: KRQE NEWS
  • On October 28, 2015 in Eddy County, New Mexico, a woman was shot and injured in what appeared to be a random accident. She was taken to the Carlsbad Medical Center to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. SOURCE: ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL
  • On September 1, 2015 in Eddy County, New Mexico, officers shot and killed 47 year-old Michael Evans. The officers were serving Evans an arrest warrant for selling a machine gun to an undercover agent. When they arrived at his house shots were fired. SOURCE: NEWS WEST.COM
  • On September 9, 2013 in Carlsbad, New Mexico, a 16 year-old boy shot his 12 year-old cousin while playing outdoors. The shooter did not know there was a bullet in the chamber of the handgun. The teen told police that his cousin had pointed a toy pistol at him before he shot him with a .38 handgun. SOURCE: ASSOCIATED PRESS
