  • On March 17, 2018 in Hobbs, New Mexico, Jose Acosta, 36 years old, shot and killed Yvonne Villalobos, 29 years old. Although shots were fired during the arrest there were no injuries. Police charged Acosta for fourth degree involuntary manslaughter. SOURCE: KOB4
  • On February 11, 2018 in Hobbs, New Mexico, Nathan Garcia faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The off duty policeman said he accidentally cut Garcia off on the road leading Garcia to start driving recklessly toward him. He then pulled out a gun and pointed it at him. Police eventually caught up with Garcia at a traffic stop. SOURCE: KOB4
  • On November 29, 2017, in Hobbs, New Mexico, officers responded to a call and found Daniel Torres, age 45, dead in his home from a gunshot wound.
  • On November 6, 2017, in Hobbs, New Mexico, police arrested Lazarus Sanders, age 19. He is facing charges for allegedly shooting at a bank employee after an armed robbery at the ATM. Witnesses told police the suspect stole money from someone at the ATM of the Lea County State Bank. He then shot a bank employee who was trying to watch the suspect until police arrived.   • On February 18, 2016, in Lea County, New Mexico, a fatal police shooting has left a suspect dead and a deputy in the hospital. State Police say 52 year-old Guadalupe Sauceda was caught robbing a man’s home in Jal. When two Lea County sherriff’s deputies and two Jal police officers showed up, they say Sauceda was holding a gun and shots were exchanged. A deputy was hit in the thigh. Sauceda died at the scene.   • On April 2, 2015 in Hobbs, New Mexico, a man was arrested for holding a woman at gunpoint. He was charged with kidnapping, felon in possession of a firearm, outstanding warrants for battery against a household member, and probation violation.   • On January 7, 2014 in Hobbs, New Mexico, a gun dealer was sentence to 12 years in federal prison for selling thousands of rounds of ammo to an illegal immigrant and possession of guns with serial numbers filed off.   • On June 30 2014, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, 2 victims of a stolen trailer decided to take the law into their own hands when they chased the suspected robber. A shootout ensued, injuring the 2 victims. The alleged robber drove away. SOURCE; KRQE NEWS
