Gun Violence

  • On June 18, 2017 in Alamogordo, New Mexico, officers were chasing a shooting suspect, Caleb Scroggins, age 21, when he crashed his car, ran to a nearby pistachio farm and took its people hostage. No one was injured and Scroggins peacefully surrendered after police rescued the hostages. SOURCE: ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL
  • On December 19, 2016 in Alamogordo, New Mexico, a 31 year-old man was shot and killed by 19 year-old Jared Young. According to police, they were called to a home in reference to a “shots fired” call. When they arrived at the home they located the victim who had been shot once.   • On September 2, 2016 in Alamogordo, New Mexico, a police officer who attempted to chase Joseph Moreno, age 38, was fatally shot by the suspect after an exchange of gunfire. The officer was Clint Corvinus, a four-year veteran. The suspect was also killed in the morning shootout. SOURCE: KOAT TV
  • On April 16, 2016 in Alamogordo, New Mexico, a police deputy arrested 27 year-old Anthony Ferdicohas. He was charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, and possession of a firearm by a felon. He is accused of robbing an Alamogordo bank at gunpoint. SOURCE: ALAMOGORDO DAILY NEWS

  • On July 12, 2012 in Alamogordo, New Mexico, 23 year-old Hilario Jimenez and 19 year-old Ricardo Bastillos were found shot to death in a vehicle in an apparent drug deal gone bad. SOURCE: 7KIVIA.COM
  • On June 9th, 2011 in Alamogordo, New Mexico, officers responded to a call at 4:15 a.m. at a Burger King. A woman was found bleeding to death from multiple gun shot wounds. She died at 7:47 a.m. at the Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center. A Ruidoso woman and man and an Alamogordo woman are being charged with first-degree murder for the shooting. SOURCE: RUIDOSO NEWS
  • On December 18, 2004 in Otero, New Mexico, sheriffs responded to a domestic violence call. When the sheriffs arrived, Earl Flipper, a member of the Aryan Brotherhood, shot and killed deputy Robert Hedman. A deputy then shot and killed Flipper after handcuffing him. Inside, the police found Flipper’s former girlfriend shot to death. Her 3 year-old daughter was in the house unharmed. SOURCE: NEW YORK TIMES

  • On July 23, 2015 in Alamogordo, New Mexico, police responded to a call on Dester Lane. Inside a home, they found Erica Castillow shot to death. Castillo’s roommate Lydia Mendez was arrested and charged with an open count of murder. It is believed that an argument preceded the shooting. SOURCE: KRQE NEWS
