Gun Violence

  • On January 15, 2018 in Portales, New Mexico, James McFarlin, 48 years old, was shot by Roosevelt County Deputies and transported to an area hospital. Deputies had responded to a call of a man using a front-end loader to try and flip an SUV. He refused to stop for deputies and plowed through three fences. There was a confrontation and deputies shot McFarlin. State police are investigating the shooting. SOURCE: SANTA FE NEW MEXICAN
  • On March 16, 2016 in Roosevelt County, New Mexico, two victims were found fatally shot inside a burning house. The victims were 39 year-old John Bustamante and 31 year-old Christina Griffin. Both victims were residents in the house. SOURCE: ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL
  • On July 22, 2010 in Portales, New Mexico, 13 year-old De Angelo Montoya shot and killed 21 year-old Eastern New Mexico University student Angel Vale with a gun he stole from the victim's home. SOURCE: ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL

  • On April 14, 2014 in Portales, New Mexico, a 22 year-old Eastern New Mexico University student was shot and killed by two men who entered his dorm room. SOURCE: KRQU NEWS 13
  • On May 6, 2015 in Portales, New Mexico, a man was shot in the shoulder by Osbaldo Navarette. Mr. Navarette first rammed his car into the victim's vehicle. Apparently, the two had been involved in a previous vehicular accident with each other a week earlier. SOURCE: KRQE
