The victim was found by police near the 2000 block of South Triviz Drive. She accused Cody Lancaster (24) of taking her to his apartment where he demanded she perform sexual acts. Upon her refusal, Lancaster struck her in the back of the head with a shotgun several times before forcing the barrel into her mouth. She was able to flee the apartment by biting him. She was then discovered and transported to a nearby hospital. Around 5:30 pm, Valenzuela shot at and injured his wife at home near Shannon St. before fleeing in a red Hyundai Elantra. Police followed Valenzuela, until he emerged from the vehicle and fired at officers a handful of times. He continued his trajectory toward New Mexico State University. Valenzuela then crashed into an unrelated vehicle on University and Espina St. where he was apprehended. According to the friend, Skaggs was seeking refuge in her home to escape Valdez. The suspect forced his way into her trailer, striking her in the face before Skaggs attempted to intervene. Shoop, 33, and Kendra “Fiana” Winn were charged with one count of kidnapping and one count of conspiracy. Investigators learned that the victim was home and told by Chavez she must leave in a pickup. Altamirano walked into the store and asked the clerk to charge his phone. He then typed a message indicating the clerk should open the cash register. Altamirano showed that he had a gun and said he would shoot if he was not given the cash. Investigators learned that he left the store without taking any money when a customer walked in.   • On October 9, 2017, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Willie Yanez, age 39, was charged with one count of shooting at an occupied building and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Police were dispatched to the report of shots fired at a home. Officers arrived to find no injuries, but damage to the home and a sport utility vehicle parked nearby. Police believe Yanez’s handguns were stolen and he wanted to retaliate, but he targeted the wrong residence.   • On October 7, 2017, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Tanya Crol, age 36, was arrested. She is accused of shooting her 12-year-old cousin in the back. Tanya Croll reportedly heard a noise coming from the kitchen and thought her cousin was an intruder. Croll was armed with a 9 mm handgun, which she allegedly fired at least once toward her cousin who was reaching inside the refrigerator for something to eat. Julio Gutierrez-Barrerra, age 20, is charged with murder and his brother, Alonzo Berrera, age 19, faces tampering with evidence and conspiracy charges. Jocelyn was at a party when a bullet fired from a passing car pierced the wall of the home and struck her in the head. A male suspect approached the U.S. Border Patrol Las Cruces Immigration Checkpoint on I-25. The vehicle was referred to a secondary inspection. Once there, as the driver was being questioned, he brandished a handgun and fired one shot through the vehicle in the direction of the agents. Las Cruces police officers were working in conjunction with the U.S. Marshals’ task force in an attempt to apprehend Lopez-Robiedo. The Las Cruces officers and U.S. Marshal struggled with Robiedo, who was armed with a knife. Robiedo slashed the knife at one of the officers who shot him.   • On September 20, 2016, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Christopher Lauster, age 35, was killed in a gun shooting incident, currently being investigated as a homicide. The victim was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Rocky Amendariz, 34 years old, was arrested. Source: Las Cruces Sun News
  • On September 8, 2016, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, three men were arrested after a drug bust. 31-year-old Ricardo Kelly is being held at a county detention center without bond. He is accused of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Source: Albuquerque Journal
  • On August 21, 2016, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Las Cruces police officers shot and killed a robbery suspect. The fatal shooting happened on a bridge over I-25. Authorities said the man’s identity wasn’t known but it was believed he had stolen a pick-up truck. The man was armed with a knife when he confronted officers.   • On December 14, 2015, in Dona Ana County, New Mexico, 3 people were arrested after a robbery and shooting. Las Cruces police say that 18-year-old Cori Runnels and 23-year-old Cayla Blue are being held on suspicion of shooting from a vehicle, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy.   • October 28, 2014, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Deputy Tai Chan shot and killed his partner in a Las Cruces hotel after an alcohol infused fight that began at a local pub and ended with the shooting of Jeremy Martin in the hotel stairwell.
