- On February 6, 2019, in Silver City, New Mexico, Christopher Madrid, age 29, pulled a gun on a clerk at a Chevron station. A week later, on February 13, 2019, In Silver City, New Mexico, Madrid was charged with shooting a woman in an apartment. The woman survived and Madrid has been charged with attempted murder and armed robbery. Source: Silver City Daily Press
- On October 5, 2017, in Silver City, New Mexico, police officer Javier Hernandez shot 41-year-old Michael Aguirre before Aguirre drove into his vehicle after a short pursuit. Hernandez, a former Grant County sheriff’s deputy who retired in 2014, said he was in “fear for his life and that of other officers.” Aguirre is charged with fleeing a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon, and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. - On April 22, 2016, in Silver City, New Mexico, authorities say an off-duty Silver City police captain shot and killed his estranged girlfriend before taking his own life. New Mexico police say 41-year-old Marcello Contreas and 31-year-old Nikki Bascon both died at the scene of the shooting. Source: Las Cruces Sun News
- On April 15, 2016, the Grant county sheriff’s office investigated an apparent homicide after responding to a 911 call. They found 20-year-old Mauricio Acosta lying outside an apartment complex with gunshot trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Source: Silver City Sun News
- On January 1, 2013, in Silver City, New Mexico, a woman pulled out a gun that she had concealed from sheriff’s deputies and hospital staff and shot and killed herself in the hospital emergency room. Source: Las Cruces Sun
- On May 26, 2013, in Silver City, New Mexico, 50-year-old Steve Becerra shot and killed 49-year-old Mary Portilla and then turned the gun on himself. Portillo’s 8-year-old daughter was in the house at the time of the shooting and was not hurt. Source: SCSunNews.Com
- On August 30, 2013, in Silver City, New Mexico, 19-year-old Eric Vegn was killed in a shooting outside a home in Silver City. 17-year-old Jose Varela was treated for a gunshot wound to the abdomen and died that night. A 16-year-old was charged with the shooting. Source: Albuquerque Journal
- On June 22, 2015, in Silver City, New Mexico, police responded to a shooting at 600 N. Swan Street. They found spent shells. Hours later the police discovered there were 3 shooting victims admitted to the Gila Medical Center. Source: KOAT 7 News
