- On September 17, 2022 in Torrance County, Maria Guadalupe Nevarez Aguilera (49) was arrested in Garden City, Kansas for a murder that transpired earlier the same month in New Mexico. 37-year-old Karla Aguilera of Tome, New Mexico, was reported missing by her daughters on September 6 after not having seen her for two days. On September 14, the victim was found dead about 20 feet from Highway 60 in Torrance County. She had been shot four times. Rosalio Alguilera Gamboa, the victim’s husband and cousin to Nevarez Aguilera has also been arrested in connection to the crime. https://bit.ly/3w7zn1z
- On November 26, 2021 near Clines Corners, New Mexico, a woman died and a man was injured after engaging police in a 50 mile, multiple jurisdiction pursuit. The incident began around 2:30 p.m. in Santa Fe when police were alerted that a Starbucks had been robbed at gunpoint and the suspects were headed North on Cerrillos Rd. toward Jaguar. Authorities pursued the vehicle South on Highway 285 until a woman in the passenger side began shooting from the vehicle. Officers fired back before the car crashed near Clines Corners. - On September 7, 2021 in Moriarty, New Mexico, Cimmeron Christy (46) was shot and killed by police responding to a domestic violence report. A call was received just before 10 p.m. that evening. Arguing could be heard in the background. The couple in question was known to have a history of domestic violence. When police arrived at the Short Street residence, Christy began shooting at officers “sporadically” after stating he wanted officers to kill him. Attempts at de-escalation were unsuccessful. The officers eventually fired back at Christy, who sustained a fatal wound. His wife exited the residence unharmed. https://bit.ly/3dJrc2x
- On March 19, 2021 in Moriarty, New Mexico, Dominic Sepulveda (29), Jessica Rios (22), and Brandon Smith (35) were charged with armed robbery and several other crimes after holding a woman at gunpoint in her home and duck taping her to a chair after she offered to help them with their car. - On March 16, 2021 in Bosque Farms, New Mexico, New Mexico State police were investigating a deputy involved shooting that spanned two counties. In the press release, police said that 28- year-old Joshua Francis of Oklahoma told dispatch that he was holding a woman hostage and that he wanted to kill himself and the police. A car chase ensued and Torrance County Sheriff’s sergeant shot and injured Francis. He was taken to the hospital. https://bit.ly/3dPYm01
- On April 12, 2017, the Torrance County sheriff’s office made an arrest of one juvenile in an apparent burglary and homicide. The charges are first-degree murder and aggravated burglary. Sheriff deputies responded to a burglary-after-the-fact at a home where a deceased female was found and the homeowner’s guns laid out on a bed. - On April 8, 2014 in a rural area of Torrance County, a man fired at police when they came to investigate a suspicious car. The officers returned fire. The suspect is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. Source: Albuquerque
- On December 14, 2010 in Torrance County, New Mexico, Joshua Arnold was arrested for the murder of 21 year-old John Duran and the attempted murder of 24 year-old Scott Bloomer in Macintosh Park. The incident stemmed from a previous dispute. Source: New Mexico Department of Public Safety
